Don’t stay in the boat when God is calling you to walk on water

In these challenging times God is calling His people to walk on the water. What does that mean? We know that Jesus walked on water in a startling display of His miraculous power, but is it possible for us to do so? The Apostle Peter decided to follow Jesus’ example literally, but He began to sink. Perhaps it is because he took his eyes off Jesus and started to focus on the waves. God may call some of His people to walk on the water, though that may be rare. What is commonplace though is that He expects us to take risks and stand in faith that He will come through for us.

Walking on the water is facing anything in your Christain walk, that challenges you. That takes you right out of your comfort zone and makes you trust in God alone. So it is largely figurative though God is more than capable of supernatural miracles that defy the laws of nature. He is all powerful, all knowing and ever present and He may well call you to walk on water, but more often than not, it will be some other risk that may be just as scary to you!
Take a step of faith and ‘walk on water’

“I’d rather be a wet water walker than a dry boat talker!” So the saying goes. As believers, we can sit around in our comfortable surroundings and plan, and dream and strategise. However if we never actually make a start, we will never achieve anything for God. All He expects from us is to take that first step of faith, then another and He is always there to encourage us, spur us on and draw us up higher.

In John 21 we read how Jesus appeared to His disciples at the Sea of Galilee, following His resurrection. They were out fishing and He called to them from the shore. When Peter realised it was the Lord, he jumped into the water while the other disciples followed in the boat. Was he walking on water? Perhaps. Nobody knows for sure, but one thing is certain, he had overcome his previous fear of drowning. He was also prepared to do anything the Saviour asked.

As believers, we all have different levels of faith. We know that faith comes by hearing God’s Word so it’s essential to spend time in the Scriptures. An ideal way to do this is by listening to the Bible or Bible devotions through the You Version Bible App. Though Peter initially only had limited success in his quest to walk on water, the Bible seems to indicate that he ultimately mastered it…

In this same chapter we see how Jesus reinstated Peter, after he had denied the Lord three times. Where you have failed in the past, does not define you for the future. There is forgiveness, restoration and a bright future ahead if you trust in Him and passionately follow Him with all your heart.
